I must be getting really bad about getting my blogs out in a timely manner. I blame it on the rainy , cruddy summer. We can pretty much blame anything on our summer this year. Today I am going to write about this month’s subscription boxes all in one post. The first one I received was my July Ipsy (pictured above). This is my third month subscribing and I was starting to wonder about what all the fuss was about. I was getting okay products, but I saw so many others receive better bags. I went in last month and messed around with my profile and it seems to have worked. I got the best selection yet. First off, I received a full sized bronzer by Pop Beauty. It retails for 10 dollars, so that made the cost of the bag. The shade is a little light for the foundation and BB cream I currently am wearing, but will work better in the winter months. It literally blended into my skin when I swatched it. It has a nice pillowy texture as well . I also received the tiniest eye shadow sample on the planet I think. It is the Bare Minerals 5 in 1 BB Advanced Performance Cream Eyeshadow in the shade of Divine Wine. It appears on my lids as more of a medium brown and is best applied by using the applicator on your hand and wiping it over the lid with a fingertip. I have only tried it once, but it seemed to hold up all day long. It needs other colors to make it attractive however, not the eyeshadow at all for making my 5 minute face. My next product was a Pixi Tinted Brilliance Balm in the shade of Pretty Pink. It is a nice rose shade that works well with my skintone and is one of those “quick swipe it on your lips” and go. Next up is the Sexy Hair Soy Renewal Beach Spray. I am really loving these types of products this summer. I am not sure how to describe the scent other than soapy, but I love how this nearly 2 oz sample works. I use it on wet or dry hair. The only thing I am not thrilled about ( besides the cheesy , as some have called it , “pink ravioli” bag) is the Hang Ten Dark Tanning Oil. It has a nice tropical scent, but if anything perhaps it can be used as a body moisturizer or hair oil. All in all, not a bad bag. I finally received a bronzer from someone. Waiting now to receive my first mascara sample.
This was the first month that they allowed us to pick one of our samples. The choices were between a few shades of a small sample of Cynthia Rowley lip stain or one of three shades of their Ruffian Polish. Apparently, we all broke the website when the emails first went out. I thought I had chosen the shade Rosary in the Ruffian, but upon waking, received another email stating I had to go back in and choose again. Of course by that time, Rosary was long gone. I settled on the shade Relic, which is a metallic taupe. I don’t have anything like it in my collection, so it was a good choice for me. I have yet to try it, but I like their Ruffian polishes. They go on smoothly, and usually are one coat coverage, with no top coat needed. I believe that everyone who chose a nail polish also received a very large Ruffian Dressing Room Perfumed Nail Laquer Remover Towelette. It is very large and I have heard the color is black and I have a feeling that one towelette will probably remove an entire manicure, unless glitter is involved. I will be happy to give it a test probably tomorrow, since I am ready for fresh finger and toe nails. The tiniest sample in the box was the Supergoop CC Cream with Spf 35. It is supposedly self-adjusting , but did come in the shade of light medium. I was actually impressed with this. It had fairly good coverage and was a very close match to my skintone. I decided it was good enough to go without foundation on the day I wore it, and the bronzer I received from Ipsy worked well with it since it was lighter than the shades I normally use on my face. I will probably save the remainder for the fall months. I also received and have tried out yet another four pack from the Coastal Scents Revealed 2 eyeshadow palette. This sample was in Ballerina and included a matte baby pink and plum and two shimmery shades that were complimentary. So far I am impressed with these shadows , I may wind up picking up the entire palette which I believe retails for 19.99. From what I have heard it is a dupe combination for both the Naked 2 and Naked 3 palettes. The last two products I have yet to try. The Marcelle New Age 8 in 1 Power Serum and the Naobay Body Radiance Lotion. I am over run with lotions and face creams at this point, and am trying to use up samples that are already opened. As usual , I am really happy with Birchbox and am saving up my points for the next limited edition kit that comes out since I think they are the best value. Oh , I almost forgot to mention, this month they teamed up with Women’s Health magazine and included in the box was a card for a free one year subscription valued at 9.99.
Now onto Love With Food. This is only my second month with this company and I have cancelled. There were a few things in the box that I enjoyed and I really like the concept behind this box in general being all natural, organic and/or GMO free. My problem has to do with more vague issues. The first box you receive is only 2 dollars, then it becomes sketchy. I have watched several Youtube unboxings and found some people were receiving the box for 10 dollars with free shipping and others were paying 12 dollars. There is no explanation whatsoever on their website as to why this is. On their website, they have one of those little “live chat” boxes , but it is ALWAYS offline. I have checked day and night. Their customer service phone hours also really do not work for me, with them on the East coast and myself in Alaska. Here is what happened this month. I received an initial email stating the box had been shipped on the 8th, (3 day priority mail), I waited and waited to see if it would ever move from saying “electronic info received”. After more than a week’s time, I sent them an email to see what was up, it was early in the week. I expected some kind of reply within 48 hours, none came. Several days later, the box shows up at my mailbox with a completely different tracking number than the one they gave me. I wrote another email , this time using the link on their website and told them what had occurred. I never got a response to that either. When a company does not respond to me in a timely manner, that really ticks me off, along with the price of the box never being fully stated. I went to the website and cancelled. A day or two later, there was a reply to my first email stating that they would send a replacement box and they assumed it was lost in shipping. I never bothered to reply back. I figured if they do, whatever, if not, no loss, since I did receive this month’s box. A few days later, I received a reply to my second email. They said wrong tracking numbers never happen and they hoped that I had enjoyed my box. I had complained about the lack of response in customer service in the second email as well, but there was no apology given. It appears that one person is running this company and they do not have their act together whatsoever. It looks like they have been in business since 2012. It got me to thinking, that if it takes that long to have a customer service rep respond, either they are getting a ton of complaints or are really understaffed. I just choose not to do business with them anymore. Instead I am going to to save my dollars for some Memeboxes, which I am dying to try out. So… farewell to Love with Food.
Sorry this was such a long post and not properly indented in its paragraphs. I tend to do that when I am on a rant, which apparently I am today. I hope you all are having a wonderful weekend and holding up under the brutal weather that is hitting the majority of places in the United States.
Ciao for now!
